Embracing the journey......

The questions often come up; "so how long have you been doing CrossFit?", "what do you eat for breakfast everyday?", "what do you eat for dinner?", "what supplements do you use post workout?", "should I come in 2-3x per day to get abs?", "how long until I'm lean and muscular?", "how long did it take you to have a six pack?"................the list can go on and on......and on and on!

We live in a fast paced world where everything is at our fingertips, fast cars, fast computers, fast food, fast internet, fast everything!

Except our Fitness! Fitness doesn't come fast.

I say it all the time; "Fitness is not a destination, it's a journey."

The sooner you can accept and embrace that, the easier your journey will be.

No one EVER, got fit overnight, no one perfected their diet overnight, no one got six pack abs overnight, or reached a bodyweight snatch overnight, or a 500+ lb deadlift, or a muscle up, or triple unders, or a sub 6min mile.........or whatever might be on your list of fitness goals.

It all takes time, it takes consistent work, commitment, effort, patience, followed up with more hard work and patience to achieve these goals.

My brother introduced me to the barbell when I was 13 years old. I've been lifting weights ever since that day. I wanted to be big and strong right away like he was! But, that took about 4 years. There have been breaks here and there for various reasons (some by choice, some not by choice), but outside of those breaks from a barbell, I've been passionate, focused and driven to excel in my Fitness since that day (25 years ago), in some way shape or form. Whether it was lifting, running, swimming, or bodyweight calisthenics, I was always working on something.

It's been 25yrs of building a FOUNDATION that has allowed me to have the level of fitness I currently have (which in my mind, being 10 weeks out of back surgery, is currently at a pretty low level for me). I've been working on my nutrition plan since I was 23 (15 years). It's still not dialed into perfection, but I do the best I can with what I have. I read, I work with professionals, I test things out, some works, some doesn't. Nutrition is a VERY individualized animal, and it takes some trial and error to figure out.

When I started CrossFit in late 2009, I couldn't do a muscle up, I didn't even know what a Snatch was, I had never done a Clean & Jerk in my life, my rack position was non-existant, and my metabolic conditioning was low. But, I saw what others were doing in the program and wanted more, so, I worked hard, put it the time, practiced skills using proper progressions, built a strong foundation for the Olympic lifts and practiced them often, and worked on my weaknesses for 2-3 years to get to a higher level. When I competed at my first Regional event in 2010, I couldn't do a double under to save my life! There were 70 in that workout, and I choked miserably!

My fitness didn't happen overnight. My abilities to "exercise well" came from the FOUNDATION that was built from the age of 13, not just the last 6 years of CrossFit.

For some of you in this community, you get impatient with your results. You want that heavy snatch PR, you want those ring muscle ups and handstand walks, some of you just want to be able to do a full range of motion squat, or a few pushups with a rigid body from your toes.

Wherever you are in your personal Fitness Journey, be patient with yourself. Understand that it takes thousands of quality repetition to build a strong FOUNDATION. You have to put in the time. If you value the longevity of your health and wellness (like we do here at C5), you will embrace the journey, be patient with yourself, and focus on doing things right for thousands of reps before you try jumping the ladder to the next cool thing you want to tackle before your body is ready. I know it's hard to be patient, I've lived it, I've learned from it, and I've grown from it.

We want nothing more than to help each and everyone of you in this community succeed with your Fitness Goals. We always have your best interest in mind when we suggest or direct you toward a specific program, a specific movement or modification.

You invest a lot of time and money in your Fitness by being apart of our program, why not make it count. Take the proper steps to build that FOUNDATION and focus on the weak areas so you can be STRONG & FIT forever without injuries or complications.

We're here to help you succeed! Make it a great Friday friends!!
