The POWER of Positivity!

Tuesday's Coach's Tip brought to you by Coach Kelsey...

"Make sure your worst enemy doesn't live between your two ears” is the quote currently displayed on our white board. As a coach, I am constantly observing everyone in the room. As you may imagine, I’m watching your breathing, movement, technique. What you may not realize, is that I’m also watching the way you communicate with yourself. All too often I see the look of doubt, the shaking of the head, the hesitation before jumping on a box, choosing a load, lifting a weight, etc. Nothing makes me more happy than when I see an athlete overcome that self doubt- willing what they want and accomplishing something they didn't know they were capable of just a few seconds prior. To the contrary, nothing is more saddening than when I see an athlete give up before they even begin, because they chose not to TRY. Since The Open is upon us, there are going to be countless obstacles with loads and movements that you may not be able to do… yet. This (and always) is the time to “believe you can [once you do that] you’re half way there.” Tell your mind to get out of the way and let your body do the work it is capable of. Attempt a movement you couldn't once do, work up to a load that seems insurmountably heavy, overcome the fears and negativity that creeps into your mind… because, “Ain't nobody got time for that!"
