Somewhere throughout time, this "F" word became something negative. Perceived as a "bad thing" by so many people.
It creates fear, anxiety, stress, etc.......in our society today. The thought of it cripples some individuals.
I'm here to tell you otherwise.
Failure is part of life. It is a requirement to achieve success in ANY ARENA of your life.
It's unavoidable if you desire achievement.
A very well known CrossFit Coach (Ben Bergeron) in our industry coined the phrase;
"There is no such thing as failure; we either win, or we learn."
A powerful concept when you think about it.
While the phrase is great. I believe we can learn from both ends of that spectrum. There are lessons to be learned via the "win" AND the "loss".
A mentor of mine once taught me the lesson that;
"Failures are the stepping stones to success"
Once I learned to embrace that concept, that failure was a requirement to the goals I wanted to achieve, that failures where the "path" that were going to lead me to success, I literally chased failure around like it was a magic pot of gold.
Google the word "failure", read any self help book, and/or read any autobiography on any successful person, and I can GUARANTEE that you will read about failure and it's necessary requirement for success.
So, if it's necessary to succeed, why do we fear it?
Why do we avoid it like the plague if we know it MUST happen in order to learn and grow?
I would like to challenge each of you to EMBRACE FAILURE.
Understand that it's just a word. If you're chasing goals and dreams (not just in fitness, but in life), you must fail to allow yourself the opportunity to learn and grow.
Don't fear it. Embrace it.
Failure doesn't define you. It's how you react to the failure that defines you.
Do you curl up and cry about it. Or do you brush yourself off, get back up, learn from the lesson, and charge ahead?
Either option is a choice. A choice that will, over time, mold you into a successful human being, or mold you into a fearful one. Choose wisely.
