Have you ever walked into the gym or the box and your body was trying to tell you something? Either you’re extra tight, not rested enough, feeling a little tired, exhausted or even weak. We’ve all had one of those days. The one when our inner self is sending us a message, probably more than one. For any athlete, or consistent gym person, there comes a time when it’s best to listen to your body. Often athletes know it’s a good idea to listen, but tend to ignore the little voice or shut it off, for the sake of getting the workout done. That one workout can be dangerous and the day of rest is probably needed.
No matter how young you are, how strong you are, how fit you think you are, how committed you are, how in shape you are, listening to your body is KEY to a successful CrossFit career. The biggest problem we see in the exercise world is that group of people that DOESN’T listen to their bodies, doesn’t take a rest day or doesn’t pull back once in a while. The group is a big one, in fact, it’s the majority of everyday exercisers. Even the fittest and most successful athletes, amateur or professional need to take it easy once in a while. Those rest days each week are just as important to your workout as your workout is, maybe even more important. Most people are aware that sleep is the time when our bodies heal. It’s crucial to know how important enough rest can be to all of us, not just the sleeping kind.
So, do yourself and your body a favor, LISTEN to it. You may not know this, but your body is 100% in tune with it’s own needs. Don’t be that guy, don’t be that girl, the one who ignores the important hints or signs. You’ll be better, stronger, fitter, faster, and more of a beast if you learn this lesson and learn it soon!
"Hey you, it's your body talking, take a rest, I will thank you for the remainder of your life!"
